About the OI

Elaine Weber Pascu, Princeton University

I was strickened to hear of Al Young’s death. While a graduate student in history at Northern Illinois University, he inspired me as a superb teacher, mentor, and dissertation advisor, who, with insight, asked the probing questions necessary to see me through the journey. His encouragement brought me into documentary editing, where I still proudly consult his Democratic Republicans in New York as I seek to identify and contextualize New York political players. My favorite historical essay will always be “The Shoemaker and the Tea Party: Memory and the American Revolution.” He is present in so many ways and still has the ability to inspire.
