How sad. I owed Al so much, we shared our work and the field when we were both in Chicago, and the connection endured in occasional meetings and exchanges. I honor him for his high standards and sense of discovery, and for his devotion to the stories lost beneath consensus history. Thanks to his fine example, we have a new generation who can see the facts others conveniently ignore, and weave them into stories and into our history.
