It is important for humanities scholars, readers, publishers, and librarians to understand the potential opportunities and challenges of Open Access.
Open Access is a term that loosely encompasses a set of ideas and ambitions about scholarly communication. In its simplest form, it means immediate online publication of all scholarly publications.
Translated into funder mandates, university policies and publisher’s (profit and non-profit) business models, Open Access has come to mean a variety of different, often highly complex, relationships between producers and consumers of scholarly content.
The Omohundro Institute has sponsored and participated in events in Williamsburg and elsewhere designed to facilitate conversations about Open Access. We will continue to post information and news of upcoming events on our website and on social media.
As we have thought about and talked about Open Access over the last year, we have also gathered a set of helpful resources. We encourage you to explore such issues as APCs, automatic waivers, CCBY licensing, gold and green (and potentially other) models, and model OA policies.
