Join us in Baltimore!
Join us on the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, for a conversation between Professors Derrick Spires (University of Delaware), Tamika Nunley (Duke University), and Nathan Connolly (Johns Hopkins University) to launch the republication of Benjamin Quarles’s The Negro in the American Revolution. To mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Omohundro Institute and the University of North Carolina Press are releasing a new edition of this classic text. Edited by Professors Spires and Nunley, the new publication includes several original essays and an introduction that centers the life and thinking of Benjamin Quarles as never before. Moderated by Professor Connolly, the event will offer new insights into this pathbreaking work and the eminent thinker whose scholarship and mentoring helped shape the field of African American history.
