OI Reader

Excellence, Innovation, Scholarship.

OI Reader v1

Since 2014, the OI Reader has given the Omohundro Institute a platform for publishing not only a digital edition of the William and Mary Quarterly but also additional digital projects that expand our understanding of early American history intellectually, conceptually and rhetorically. We are grateful to Adobe Systems, Inc., for their support of that app.

OI Reader v2 Beta

We are excited to share the beta version of the new OI Reader.

Launched on June 1, 2020, the beta version offers full access to all content on the OI Reader including 2020 issues of the William and Mary Quarterly and two articles in Open WMQ, “Hidden in Plain Sight: Escaped Slaves in Late Eighteenth- and Early-Nineteenth Century Jamaica” by Simon Newman (originally published in June 2018 on the first iteration of the OI Reader) and “Singing Box 331: Re-Sounding Eighteenth-Century Mohican Hymns from the Moravian Archives” by Rachel Wheeler and Sarah Eyerly (published in the October 2019 WMQ with a digital companion). Access will remain open through September 30, 2020 after which issues of the WMQ will be available only to OI Associates (at any level).

Help us improve the OI Reader!

As you work with the site, please share your thoughts using this form. Thanks for helping us improve.

A note from Joshua Piker, Editor of the WMQ

New forms of presentation often inspire new ways of thinking. At the WMQ we are interested in both these innovations.

If you have an unpublished article about an early American topic that incorporates digital elements or features, we would love to hear about it. Please contact me at japiker@wm.edu to discuss the OI Reader and the WMQ’s submission process.
