On October 21, 2008, a blustery Tuesday, friends of Richard Gilder and the Omohundro Institute gathered at the New-York Historical Society to honor Mr. Gilder and his generosity in support of historical studies with a reception and screening of “The bloody Writing is for ever torn,” the Institute’s DVD on the 2007 conference in Ghana. Sid Lapidus, both a Trustee of the New-York Historical Society and a member of the Institute’s Executive Board as well as an attendee of the 2007 conference, hosted the gathering, which also featured remarks by College of William and Mary Provost Geoff Feiss and Omohundro Institute Director Ron Hoffman. It was a pleasure to see old friends and new brought together by their esteem for Mr. Gilder to enjoy the premiere of a project to which he has given so much encouragement. |
