Five New Institute Editorial Apprentices

AprrentiAfter weeks of springtime study, cogitation, and negotiation, the editors at the Institute and the graduate committee of the Lyon G. Tyler Department of History agreed on the new apprentices for the Institute for the 2008–2009 academic year. An interesting and rich group indeed! We can start with Justin Clement, who comes by way of the State University of New York, Buffalo, and William and Mary and drives a Geo Prizm. Brandon Righi hails from Washington College and drives a Toyota Camry. Kristina Poznan ferries messages to and from our old NEH fellow Jim Merrell at Vassar; she is thought to drive something like unto a BMW. We have two who studied under good friend Neal Salisbury. Alana Speth drives a Ford Focus and graduated from Smith. Kristen (Sonic) Woytonik also graduated from Smith and drives a Hyundai. We’ll have more on these folk as time progresses, but at this point we can assure you that they are more interesting than their cars! They went through the usual August training in historical editing and publishing procedures, which was climaxed by a long session with Charles Grench and Dino Battista of the University of North Carolina Press, who tried to explain what the real world of publishing was like.
