Checklist for Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Application

  • ___ Abstract
    • Provide a one paragraph summary of your project.
    ___ Statement of Proposed Work
    • Discuss the work you propose to undertake during the fellowship, including an account of the inception of your project, an abstract, the work's historiographic relevance, a precise indication of work completed so far, and a plan for revisions. You should conclude by indicating what you regard as the significance of your work. Typically, such statements range from 4 to 7 pages.
  • ___ Manuscript 
    • Submit one copy of a completed dissertation or book manuscript (to be returned if requested).
  • ___ Three References
    • Sent directly to Beverly Smith, Manager, Institute Administration, Mellon Fellowship, OIEAHC, by November 1.  References should speak to the importance of your work and the impact that the fellowship could have on your project.
  • ___ Fellowship Requirements:
    • Applicants must have completed the Ph.D. by the date the fellowship begins (July 1).
    • Applicants must not have previously published a scholarly book or have entered into a contract for the publication of a scholarly monograph.
    • The proposed fellowship project must not be under contract with another publisher.
    Applications must be postmarked by November 1.
