Tram-Riding and Hiking at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort: Please join us for an afternoon of tram-riding and hiking at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Only thirty minutes from the University of Utah, Snowbird’s Hidden Peak offers remarkable views of the Wasatch Mountains and the Salt Lake Valley below. Participants will be picked up at the Hotel Monaco in downtown Salt Lake City (15 West 200 South) at 12:45 p.m. or at the University Guest House Hotel on the University of Utah campus (110 S. Fort Douglas Boulevard) at 1:00 p.m. They may catch a ride back to Salt Lake City either at 5:30 p.m., if they wish to dine downtown, or at 8:00 p.m., if they wish to take advantage of Snowbird’s dining options. The cost is $20 (not including dinner) and includes a round-trip ticket for the Snowbird tram, which ascends 3,000 vertical feet from the resort to the 11,000-foot summit of Hidden Peak. For more information, please visit www.snowbird.com/events/summeractivities/tram.html.
Tour of the LDS Family History Library: Please join us for a tour of the world’s largest genealogical collection, the LDS Family History Library (FHL). With more than three million microfilm and microfiche records, the FHL offers early American researchers unmatched access to land, tax, probate, church, and vital records. Through a system of satellite libraries in most U.S. and Canadian cities, patrons can access most of the library’s records close to home. The tour will be led by Michael (Mick) Nicholls of Utah State University, who has used the FHL to research the social history of the Chesapeake for more than three decades. Participants should meet in the FHL lobby, 35 N. West Temple Street (TRAX stop: Temple Square). The tour will begin at 3:30 p.m. and last until 5:00. The tour is free, but please sign up to give us an accurate count of participants.
